You did not buy your bread at the store. Remember the grain field earlier?  You brought the grain  harvest in, in the fall, and made sure there was enough to last you the winter.  If you had extra you would sell or trade it (barter) with your neighbors for something else you needed.  You did not have a refrigerator. You milked your cow every morning before you left for the fields or lumber camp, and again at night. You also churned your own butter. The churn is over there behind the stove.  You can see it when you come on out.

 

 It was a different time. A slower time.
